Online Exhibit

Welcome to the HER[AI]TAGE exhibit!

Welcome to the HER[AI]TAGE virtual gallery, an immersive space dedicated to the preservation and dynamic reimagining of intangible cultural heritage from the Mura, Drava, and Danube river basins. While our primary database safeguards the transcribed oral histories and traditional ecological knowledge of local elders, this online exhibit serves as a dedicated visual canvas. Here, we carefully blend these authentic, lived experiences with generative artificial intelligence to create evocative visual interpretations. These distinctive artworks translate forgotten customs, memories of the rivers, and intergenerational wisdom into a compelling visual language, capturing the atmosphere and historical essence of the original narratives for the digital age.

Beyond serving as an innovative archive, this digital gallery is designed as a dynamic educational resource for cultural practitioners, adult learners, and the broader public. Each visual piece acts as a gateway to wider discussions on environmental stewardship, regional identity, and the ethical intersection of modern technology and traditional heritage. We encourage visitors and educators to utilise this exhibit as a visual stimulus for exploration, group reflection, and the enrichment of educational curricula, ensuring that these historical voices continue to resonate and inspire.

Important notice: These stories capture the highly personal and subjective memories of the elders who participated in our project. To enhance the emotional resonance and overall experience of these narratives, we have employed generative AI to create accompanying illustrations and audio narrations. We must emphasise that these stories, alongside their multimedia elements, do not aim to present historically accurate reconstructions. Instead, they serve as creative interpretations and evocative (re)imaginings of the original accounts. All characters featured in the artwork are randomly generated by AI. They are not based on real people. Any similarity to actual individuals, living or deceased, is entirely coincidental.
