You just knew when you actually went to pick something. The forest was also used; maybe they went to gather acorns that had fallen or something for food, probably for the pigs. Also in the field, [you knew] when something grew, when you could pick some turnips… Apples that fell, you also didn’t throw them on the manure pile or compost; you used them. Seasonal food was definitely eaten… A lot was probably preserved (canned)… Things were dried or conserved in some way. But food was eaten seasonally.
