There were always some women in the village who knew what everything was for, from St. John’s wort to pheasant’s eye (gorocvet). We still have pheasant’s eye up on the hill. And they went to the woods mostly to pick mushrooms, those willow mushrooms (vrbare), the big ones. And it was known when they appeared – after the rain. They picked them, boiled them, used them, ate them. I remember that very, very well. My grandmother did that too. They used fish to fast.
