That year 1965 is memorable, when a great tragedy befell Begeč, when the Danube flooded us. They say it was truly terrible. We went to our aunt’s in Novi Sad, but after a few days when we came back, all of Begeč was under water, and all the fields were under water. That flood set Begeč back a lot, because sorghum (sirak), which is very detrimental to agriculture here, arrived from the regions of Germany and the Netherlands. Sorghum is a plant used in the Netherlands for raising livestock, but here it contaminated the fields, and Begeč, which was involved in vegetable and crop farming, is slowly losing its element and switching to growing some other crops. Today, Begeč is known for growing carrots.
