One plant species that is very interesting is Lady’s Bedstraw (ivanjsko cveće). For St. John’s Day (Ivanjdan) in Begeč, wreaths are woven. Every girl, and the host, puts a wreath on the door. If there is a girl in the house ready for marriage, then the suitor (đuvegija), who plans to marry that girl, must come and take down that wreath. This custom has been preserved to this day. However, the preservation of the plant is not respected. I remember my parents always carried a knife or scissors to cut the flowers, but today people pull them out by the roots.
