My childhood was tied to the Mura river. My favorite thing was riding the boat ‘Moriša’, even though I was afraid of the water because I can’t swim. People fished along the Mura, there was fun and laughter, and the forest along the river was our playground. I also remember the mill where we would take corn; I always watched in wonder there as the grains turned into flour. Today, Dekanovec has changed a lot, that forest is gone, and the people I knew have passed away. Nostalgia remains in me; images of childhood and youth always return. When I come to my hometown, I barely recognize it, but my heart pulls me to stand on the bank of the Mura once more and cross on the old ferry.
