In the long-term relationship between me and the Danube, there are many stories, many events, many experiences, everything a river like the Danube could offer. I had no need to travel; even today, I don’t like to travel. When I’d come to the Danube, I remember the spring moments when everything turned green, when everything on the water bloomed, and that was my trip to the Amazon. Experiences from marsh to marsh, and when I pass through old channels, squeezing through shady willows where sunbeams only occasionally break through… It was an exceptional experience. Everything smelled of springtime. … And there was a lot of inspiration there, which later led to me painting. I always carried a watercolor block and paints with me and often painted with Danube water. I wouldn’t even bring drinking water; I’d use water from the Danube to make a watercolor of a situation I liked.
