At our place, there were always festivities. We sang with a brass band, danced, and went to Hungary when they invited us. For the harvest or St. George’s Day (Jurjevo), we celebrated with cakes and processions. We used to go across the Mura, sometimes by boat, later by bus. Old songs were sung about water, nature, mountains, and wine hills. Women gathered herbs – elderflower, hawthorn, pine needles – and made teas from them. At spinning bees and weaving gatherings, people socialized and had fun. There was always singing, even when the work was hard. We decorated the Christmas tree, sang Christmas carols, and those were the most beautiful times. Today, young people aren’t interested, but we elders still gather, rehearse, and sing for our souls. While we sing, we feel alive.
