As a child, I also had some fears; I don’t know where they came from. When the Danube retreats into its bed, in the summer or autumn period, wild blackberry seedlings appear on the islands that were completely flooded during the year; they reproduce on their own. They simply stay that way all year. Nobody plants them – like everything else in nature that regenerates after a time and in its own way. … We went and embarked on that adventure. It is objectively low vegetation, but it all scratches. It’s all intertwined. There was a danger of stepping on all sorts of things, so we wore boots, but I still didn’t feel safe. Then we’d find a good spot where there were blackberries we could pick. That was a pleasure for me, and I remember I also filled a small bucket. That smell of wild blackberries, which are simultaneously dark blue, whitish, and shiny in places, but leave a permanent color on your hands, tongue, and lips. We would leave ‘musavi’ (with stained faces), and then our uncle would pack us into the boat, and that was a special event.
