What I remember from my earliest childhood are the walks along the bank. We swam every year, all summer. The Danube was incomparably cleaner than now. I loved going fishing with my dad. We lived practically right next to the Danube. There was a lot of fish then, I would say. In the afternoon, when the conversation started about what we would have for dinner, if we wanted fish, we’d go to catch dinner, and we could even choose which species. … I don’t remember seeing fish in my adult years. There were even crayfish, since the house is near the stream that comes from Paragovo and flows into the Danube there. Crayfish, by the way, only live in completely clean water. We swam there. There were two groynes (špor) that disappeared after the flood, so that part between the groynes was protected in a way, the current was less strong. We also swam down below Kamenica Park.
