The name of Krčedin is certainly linked to the name Krčedinska Ada, which surely existed before the Krčedin settlement itself was founded. By the way, Krčedin is a place that dates back to 1566. There is a population census from Turkish times. In that census, not the Krčedinska Ada, but the Zatonja marsh, which is located on Krčedinska Ada, is mentioned. The Turks meticulously recorded this, probably because it was rich in fish. There is a record of the Krčedin quarry, which is on the Danube. That quarry is also an interesting Danube story because stone was exploited there back in Turkish times, and that stone was easy to transport downstream. Zemun was built with that stone, and probably part of the Belgrade Fortress. That quarry still exists today, and it was operational until after the Second World War.
