There is one ugly detail that the authorities created in the 80s. They tried – I think it was unsuccessful, although part of it remained – to plant poplar, which is not an indigenous tree on Krčedinska Ada, at the expense of the centuries-old willows. They took plots from the villagers, gave them others, and tried to plant poplar as a commercial tree that grows quickly and is cut. When it’s cut, it looks like an atomic bomb fell on those plots. Unfortunately, one part of the ada remained in that poplar, and one part did not, thanks to the fact that the villagers did not respect the ban on grazing large livestock, horses, and cattle, so they, thankfully, destroyed a part of those seedlings, and the willows managed to survive and remain.
