In the village, every job was also a social gathering. Hay was prepared together – it was mowed by hand, children turned it and made small stacks, neighbors and relatives helped. When it was finished, there was singing and joy. In winter, corn was husked – it was picked during the day, and in the evening, the group would gather, brandy and chestnuts were cooked, and there was singing and laughter. Feather stripping was special: women would gather, strip goose feathers for pillows and cushions, and the men would come to tease and make merry. It was work, but also an opportunity for socializing and singing. The songs were church, wedding, and old-time songs. Today, younger generations learn about these customs through celebrations like ‘fašjak’ (carnival) or Macinec Day, but it’s mostly the older generation that upholds them.
