Database

Welcome to the HER[AI]TAGE story archive!

This database is a central result of the project, created to preserve the intangible cultural heritage and traditional ecological knowledge gathered from 68 participants across local communities in Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia.

The collection features unique oral histories and environmental memories, focusing particularly on the local ecosystems and bodies of water (Drava, Mura, and Danube) that connect our partner regions.

To explore the narratives, please select one of the six thematic categories below. This will display all the preserved stories related to that specific topic.

These narratives are more than just memories; they serve as a practical toolkit and dynamic educational resources designed to enrich adult learning. Educators can integrate these authentic accounts into curricula to foster intergenerational dialogue, stimulate group discussions, and explore sustainable living practices rooted in traditional ecological knowledge. For learners, engaging with these voices offers a unique opportunity to enhance language comprehension, develop cultural literacy, and critically reflect on the evolving relationship between our communities and the ecosystems of the Drava, Mura, and Danube.

The stories you have just read are authentic records of elders experiences who participated in the HER[AI]TAGE project. While the content is original, the text may have been lightly edited for optimal clarity, flow, and readability.
