HER[AI]TAGE is an Erasmus+ small-scale project that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage and traditional ecological knowledge. By collecting and digitising oral histories from elderly community members in Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia, the project ensures that stories, traditions, and environmental wisdom connected to local rivers, Drava, Mura, and Danube, are safeguarded for future generations. Through AI-generated illustrations, interactive digital storytelling, and an accessible online platform, HER[AI]TAGE bridges the past and present, making cultural heritage more engaging and widely available. The project also fosters intergenerational learning, connecting older storytellers with younger audiences and adult learners. It also raises awareness about the ethical use of AI in cultural preservation and environmental education, equipping adult educators with the tools and knowledge needed to integrate digital innovation into their teaching. By combining tradition with cutting-edge technology, HER[AI]TAGE strengthens cultural identity, enhances civic engagement, and contributes to the sustainability of Europe’s rich and diverse heritage.
